Mechatronics (Bachelor of Engineering)
Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or information technology? Do all of these subjects interest you? The mechatronics study programme covers exactly these three areas.
Mechatronics allow you to convert mechanical systems into intelligent plant and machinery. Many mechatronic products have already become a regular part of our day-to-day lives - or could you imagine a life without cars, CD and DVD players or dishwashers?

Thanks to mechatronics and GPS, our harvesting machines are able to harvest a field and remain on track without any steering movements from the driver.
For trainee mechatronic engineers, the combination of mechanical engineering, electronics and information technology results in a wide-ranging and demanding study programme because you have to be up-to-date in all of the individual disciplines without losing sight of the overall picture.
At CLAAS, you can look forward to a broad field of activity: You will be responsible for the development and manufacturing of self-propelled harvesting machines as well as system, transport and tractor vehicles for the agricultural sector.
We offer this dual-study programme at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart or at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld at the Gütersloh site. CLAAS provides additional support for its dual-study programme students in the form of workshops and product trainings.

- The dual-study programme at a glance
Training programme details Training duration: 3 years Prerequisites: - German university entry qualification (Abitur, grade point average 2.5 or better)
- Demonstrated strengths in mathematical and scientific subjects
- Pronounced interest in technology
- Mobility, flexibility
Structure: The theoretical phases at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Stuttgart or the Fachhochschule Bielefeld at the Gütersloh site and practical phases at CLAAS alternate roughly every 3 months.
1st–4th semesters: Theoretical aspects:
- Technical mechanics
- Design
- Production techniques
- CAD techniques
- Electrical engineering/electronics
- Digital control technology
- Information technology
- Programming
- Measurement technology
- Chemicals/materials
- Mechatronic systems
- Business studies
Practical aspects:
- Basic manual and machine-based skills
- Introduction to electrical engineering and electronics
- Computer operation and use (application programmes)
- Computer technology (system programming, microprocessors, operating systems)
- Introduction to engineering methods
- Departmental deployments in development, production, quality assurance or control engineering, presentation technology, technical documentation
5th–6th semesters: - In-depth study of chosen specialist subject group
- Bachelor thesis
Additional training measures: - Introductory seminar
- CAD training
- Deployment abroad as appropriate
- Product training
Final qualification: Bachelor of Engineering – Mechatronics - German university entry qualification (Abitur, grade point average 2.5 or better)
